Do you know where your next meal is coming from? One in five children in America
don’t. The Lenawee Community Foundation is addressing this issue, and kids are a
part of the solution.

The Lenawee YOUTH Council (LYC), a program of the Lenawee Community
Foundation, was recently awarded a $500 grant from Sodexo through Youth Service
America for the Weekend Snack Sack program.

The Weekend Snack Sack program provides healthy food to at-risk children in grades
K-6 at Adrian and Madison school districts, and a food pantry for Adrian Middle School
7/8 students. The program is a partnership with the Baucher family of Adrian, Adrian
Morning Rotary, Lenawee Community Foundation, and Madison Interact.

The Sodexo focus is youth-led community service projects designed to address
childhood hunger. Projects will take place in honor of Global Youth Service Day.

The grant will enable the Lenawee YOUTH Council to purchase 2,500 pounds of food
from the South Central Michigan Food Bank to be utilized towards serving 300 children
weekly.

YOUTH Council members, composed of local youth ages 12 and older, volunteer with
the Weekend Snack Sack and other programs, make grants, and promote philanthropy
among their peers. The Lenawee Community Foundation invests in our youth because
they are the future of our community.
