Merry Christmas

As the holiday season unfolds, it’s natural to reflect on the spirit of generosity that seems to brighten our Lenawee community. While it’s easy to associate this time of year with financial donations and large gestures, I’ve come to realize that true giving often lies in the simpler, more personal acts of kindness.

Recently, I found myself reminiscing about my childhood Christmases – the joy of baking cookies, singing carols, and making homemade gifts for my family. Those were special times, filled with laughter, warmth, and the magic of the season. But as I grew older, I became more aware of those less fortunate, those for whom the holidays might not be as bright.

In Lenawee County, we are fortunate to have countless everyday heroes. From neighbors helping neighbors, to those buying gifts for children who might otherwise go without, our community is a testament to the power of small, thoughtful acts of generosity. These individuals may not make headlines, but their impact is profound and heartwarming.

We often overlook the teacher staying late to help students, the firefighter coaching youth sports in their spare time, or the business leader volunteering at a shelter. Even those who contribute a few dollars to local campaigns like Lenawee Cares are part of this tapestry of giving. These acts might seem small, but they are mighty in their impact.

Lenawee County is filled with daily philanthropists — quiet, thoughtful, and often generous beyond their means. We carry a spirit of community, generosity, and care for our neighbors that define us, shining brightest during this festive time of year.  In these moments, the simple joy of sharing shows itself in many beautiful forms – be it a heartfelt gift, supporting a local nonprofit, or sharing a warm meal.

As the CEO of Lenawee’s own community foundation, I am deeply moved and honored to dedicate each day to uplifting our residents and enhancing the health and hope within our communities. It’s both a joy and a privilege to bridge the gap between compassionate individuals and meaningful causes, all within the vibrant spirit of generosity that defines our community.

This holiday season, let’s remember that generosity doesn’t always have to be grandiose or complicated. Sometimes, the smallest gestures – a smile, a greeting card, an invitation to someone who might be alone – can make the biggest difference.

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and a season filled with joy, warmth, and the beauty of giving in all its forms.
