New Staff Jim Southard & Sarah Hartigan

The Lenawee Community Foundation is pleased to welcome Sarah Hartigan and Jim Southard to its staff.

Sarah Hartigan is serving as an AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) member, which is similar to a domestic version of the Peace Corps.  Jim Southard is the Coordinator for the Lenawee College Access Network.

Hartigan is working through the Michigan Nonprofit Association, in partnership with the Lenawee Community Foundation, its VOLUNTEER Lenawee! program, and the Lenawee College Access Network. Hartigan’s primary goals include: recruiting and coordinating volunteers to support the needs of local schools and nonprofits, working with the Lenawee YOUTH Council, promoting resources related to post-secondary access and success, and maintaining the Lenawee County Resource Guide.

Hartigan was born and raised in sunny southern California before moving north to attend the University of Washington in Seattle. While at the university, Hartigan was a part of the women’s NCAA rowing team that won a national championship. In June 2018 Hartigan received a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences. In addition to her duties at the Lenawee Community Foundation, she will also serve as a volunteer coach for the inaugural Adrian College men’s and women’s rowing teams. Sarah is excited to serve in the AmeriCorps position following her family’s recent move to the Lenawee County area.

Jim Southard is a lifelong resident of Lenawee County, and Deerfield High School graduate. He received a B.A. in Business Administration and a M.A. in Organizational Leadership with a focus in Non-profit from Siena Heights University.  In 2014-2016, he served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA through the Michigan Nonprofit Association, in partnership with the Lenawee Community Foundation and the Lenawee College Access Network.

After his VISTA contract ended, Southard continued to work with the Lenawee Community Foundation to help launch the first Lenawee Cares campaign.  After successful completion of the campaign, he worked for Goodwill Industries of Southeast Michigan for 2 ½ years.  In May, 2018 he was named Coordinator of the Lenawee College Access Network where he will provide support towards Lenawee’s goal of 60% of residents having post-secondary credentials by 2025.
