The Lenawee YOUTH Council (LYC), a program of the Lenawee Community Foundation, was recently awarded Grant of the Year from the Michigan Community Foundation Youth Project (MCFYP).
The LYC is made up of local young people ages 12-21. They volunteer, grant money to youth programs, plan college visits and more! The LYC won for their funding of the Roadmap to Graduation program of Catholic Charities of Lenawee, Hillsdale, and Jackson Counties.
In 2007, the Lenawee YOUTH Council awarded Catholic Charities $10,000 to start the Roadmap to Graduation program. A total of 56 students have enrolled in this incredible program. Catholic Charities reports that they have a better than 90% graduation rate and of those students, 83% have gone on to attend college, and all the remaining students have found employment or gone on to a one/two-year program to develop specific skills for future employment. The Lenawee YOUTH Council has continued to provide funding. A $2,000 grant allows five homeless students the opportunity to live in a safe, mentoring environment for two months.
