Thanks to generous donors, $437,000 is going to local agencies in 2018 through grants and designations from the 2017-2018 Lenawee Cares campaign. Nonprofits have received $294,000 to date with the remaining grants and designations to be paid in full this year, as pledges are collected.
Lenawee Cares is a program of Lenawee Community Foundation. The funding focus is health and human services with an emphasis on meeting basic needs, such as food, clothing, and housing. After these needs are met, we can focus on other aspects of well-being, such as learning, reaching our full potential, and building a better community.
Following are donor designations plus the grants, which were recommended by the 16-member Lenawee Cares Advisory Board and approved by the 17-member Lenawee Community Foundation Board:
- $27,697 to Adrian Community Preschool for the three-year-old program
- $4,225 to Adrian Rea Literacy Center for books and supplies
- $17,318 to Associated Charities for clothing and housewares distribution
- $39,019 to Boys & Girls Club of Lenawee
- $23,165 to Catherine Cobb SafeHouse
- $34,687 to Catholic Charities Child Advocacy Center
- $9,500 to Child Care Network scholarships
- $9,656 to The Daily Bread meals
- $18,021 to Habitat for Humanity home construction
- $33,110 to HOPE Community Center for adaptive exercise
- $12,412 to Housing Help of Lenawee for rent/mortgage assistance
- $14,500 to Legal Services of South Central Michigan for eviction diversion
- $1,000 to Lenawee Department on Aging for wheelchair ramps plus $5,000 from another Foundation resource
- $6,204 to Neighbors of Hope for food
- $7,133 to St. Mary’s of Good Counsel food pantry & dire needs program
- $5,320 to Society of St. Vincent de Paul food pantry
- $10,477 to Tecumseh Service Club for rent & utilities
- $17,805 to YMCA for food for children and diabetes prevention
- There are numerous smaller distributions, as well as funding to be awarded to area community programs.
