Whether it’s a personal, cultural, or organizational value, trust is a most valuable asset. Donors, who give their hard-earned money and time to the Lenawee Community Foundation, can be sure that our board and staff will make sure gifts are used in accordance with the donor’s intentions, and that we utilize gifts wisely. We place the utmost value on the trust that has been placed with us, and work to earn and keep the respect and confidence of our community.
Because of the Foundation’s responsibility to be good stewards of donor dollars and assure that the greatest good can be achieved, the Board of Directors has approved a change to the grant-making process beginning in 2020. Applicant nonprofit organizations seeking grants exceeding a total of $2,000 in any calendar year will be required to submit an Intent to Apply form and complete a prequalification process thirty days prior to the due date of any grant.
The prequalification process will include providing documentation of items that previously would have been attachments to grant applications, as well as policies and some general information.
Nonprofits, who are currently receiving more than $2,000 annually from the Lenawee Community Foundation or who intend to apply for more than $2,000 in 2020 are strongly urged to attend an informational session at the Lenawee Community Foundation, where the process will be explained and the forms will be provided.
There will be three sessions from which to choose:
• Wednesday, October 23 from 8-8:30 a.m.
• Thursday, October 31 from 8-8:30 a.m.
• Monday, November 4 from 2-2:30 p.m.
One of the new requirements will be having a staff or board member of the applicant nonprofit attend the Keeping your Nonprofit Legal workshop. Previous attendance at the workshop in 2018 will fulfill this requirement. For those who did not attend in 2018, the workshop will be offered immediately following the prequalification meetings and will last two hours. Registration is required. The $15 fee is waived for a 2019 Foundation grant recipient.
Lenawee has a strong tradition of giving and sharing, and the Lenawee Community Foundation is blessed to have earned the trust and respect of our community. We pledge to be both efficient and effective, to achieve the greatest good, and to give our utmost to maintain the trust that has been placed in us.
