A Life Rooted in Service, a Legacy Growing Into the Future

David P. Pray spent his life giving back to the community he loved. As a teacher, principal, mentor, and friend, he shaped countless lives in Lenawee County through education, kindness, and quiet leadership. In his passing, Dave continued that spirit of generosity by establishing a scholarship fund with the Lenawee Community Foundation that will support Clinton students for years to come.

Born in Detroit in 1946, Dave found his true home in Clinton. He graduated from Taylor Center High School in 1964 and earned a degree from Adrian College, launching a career in education that spanned more than 30 years. He began teaching at Deerfield Public Schools before joining Clinton Community Schools in 1970, where he served as both teacher and administrator until his retirement.

Dave believed deeply in the power of education and community. He cheered on students at games, celebrated their accomplishments, and stayed connected long after graduation. Friends, family, and former students alike remember him as someone who led with heart and always made time for others.

His gift to the Lenawee Community Foundation reflects the same values he lived every day. Through the David P. Pray Memorial Scholarship Fund, future generations of Clinton students will receive support as they pursue their dreams, carrying his belief in education forward into a brighter future.

It is an honor at the Foundation to be the stewards of Dave’s gift. His story reminds us that when we give with intention and love, we help create lasting impact across our community. It’s a legacy that truly brings health, happiness, and hope to Lenawee, now and for generations to come.
