National Volunteer Week 2016: Celebrate Service

“Be of service. Whether you make yourself available to a friend or co-worker, or you make time every month to do volunteer work, there is nothing that harvests more of a feeling of empowerment than being of service to someone in need.”  ~ Gillian Anderson

National Volunteer Week, was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each year, with thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the week. It is a time dedicated to demonstrating the power of volunteers and celebrate service.

National Volunteer Week, April 10-16, 2016, is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging you to seek out ways to become engaged in Lenawee County.  People of all ages volunteer, and anyone can through the smallest of acts, do their part to improve the lives of others. This week, we celebrate the selfless individuals around our community who channel their civic virtues through volunteerism, and we encourage you to make service an integral part of your life.

VOLUNTEER Lenawee!, a program of the Lenawee Community Foundation is encouraging every Lenawee County resident to celebrate volunteers and their accomplishments during National Volunteer Week by saying thank you. Thank you for being who you are. Thank you for building a better community. Thank you for making a difference. Thank you for your work. Thank you for volunteering.

National Volunteer Week is not only our moment in time to celebrate our service, but also to allow our community to share ideas, practices, and stories, whenever they happen, and to shape a movement to re-imagine citizenship.
