ADRIAN, Mich., Oct. 23, 2024
The Lenawee Community Foundation (LCF), a charitable organization created by and for the community, announced today the recipients of the Knight Health and Human Services grants.
The $45,000 in grants, made possible through the V.C. and Velma Knight Memorial Fund, were awarded to 16 local organizations.
Even after Velma’s passing in 1980 and V.C.’s in 2005, their generous spirits live on in Lenawee. The deep commitment they had to support those in need endures through the legacy they created in partnership with the Lenawee Community Foundation. Over $625,000 in grants have been awarded to date thanks to the Knight’s generosity. They will continue to make a meaningful difference in Lenawee County for generations.
“The foundation works closely with donors and partners to connect generosity with need,” said Bronna Kahle, Lenawee Community Foundation President and CEO. “The Knight fund is an example of the lasting impact one couple’s commitment to their community can have now and forever. LCF is pleased to support the great work of the grant recipients and encouraged to see the positive impact these organizations have on Lenawee County.”
Examples of some of this year’s funded projects through the Knight Health and Human Services grants include CCTV systems enhancing accessibility for low vision users, Family Support Program, addressing trauma in children, critical home repair, and providing fresh food and hot meals for those in need across the county.
Grant recipients include the following organizations:
- Adrian Breakfast Lions Club
- Associated Charities of Lenawee County (ACLC)
- Boys & Girls Club of Lenawee

The Lenawee Community Foundation is grateful for the service of those who served on the selection committee and carefully reviewed the grant requests. Their recommendations were approved unanimously by the Lenawee Community Foundation Board of Directors.
The marked increase in the number of grant applications received this year reflects the growing need for funding across the county. Your gift makes an impact in a meaningful and lasting way! Leaving a legacy is about using what you have to improve what you see happening around you and continuing that work on into the future.
When you leave a legacy, not only do you improve the quality of life for yourself, but all our friends and neighbors. Now and forever.
