A Day On, Not a Day Off! — “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On January 18, 2016 millions of people will come together to volunteer and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, who never stopped asking the question, “What are you doing for others?” The MLK Day of Service is a great time to work together to fulfill King’s vision for a better America.

We have a unique opportunity to unite in volunteer service and to do what we do best – lend a hand, help our neighbors – and build better communities. Since Dr. King’s famous “I have a Dream” speech in 1963, tremendous social progress has been made, but much remains unfinished. We believe that people have the power to make positive change, through volunteerism.

What are you doing for others?  This holiday, honor Dr. King’s vison for a better America by volunteering in our community. Take time to gather your friends, family, or co-workers to schedule a volunteer project of your own.  Together we can make a difference here in Lenawee County.

Some great local volunteer opportunities include:

Habitat for Humanity of Lenawee County

Habitat will have two opportunities for individuals or groups to participate and give back to their community.  These opportunities include construction or ReStore projects.  If you are interested in joining our Construction Team or ReStore Team contact Erin Buck at volunteer@habitat-lenawee.org, or (517)265-6157.

Lenawee Medical Care Facility

Share a hobby or talent with our Elders. Come in and share your collection, share photos of a special experience, play an instrument, sing, juggle, or dance. Anything you can do, we would love to see!  Contact Kristen Livingston at (517) 263-6794 or klivingston@lenmed.net
